Membership details

There are 7 grades of membership:

  1. Honorary Fellow
  2. Fellow
  3. Member
  4. Associate Member
  5. Students
  6. Associates
  7. Retired Members

Honorary Fellows, Fellows and Members are all Corporate Members. Honorary Members are long serving members appointed by the Council.

Fellows shall be persons who have been educated in and trained in Minerals Engineering or an ancillary branch thereof or in a science associated therewith to a standard acceptable to the Council and who shall have a minimum of five years of relevant experience of which at least two years shall be practical training. Fellows may use the letters F.M.E.S. top of page

Members shall be persons who have been educated in and trained in Minerals Engineering or an ancillary branch thereof or in a science associated therewith to a standard acceptable to the Council and who have a minimum of three years of relevant experience of which at least two years shall be practical training. Members may use the letters M.M.E.S. top of page

Associate Members shall be persons who at the time of the candidature are engaged in Minerals Engineering or an ancillary branch thereof and who have sufficient practical experience as shall satisfy the Council or have passed such examinations as shall be acceptable to the Council.

Students shall be persons who are following approved courses of study and training for the profession of Minerals Engineering or an ancillary branch thereof. top of page

Associates shall be persons who desire to promote the science and practise of Minerals Engineering or wish to be associated with the activities of the Society.

Application for membership is dealt with by Section Committees who make recommendation to the Rules & Membership Committee, who in turn advise the Council for approval. Potential members should obtain an application form from either the local secretary or the National Secretary. top of page

On retirement from gainful employment all members who are over the age of 60, can avail themselves of 'Retired Status' in their appropriate grade by payment of an annual subscription of £ 10.00 top of page
